Q: Can any business join your effort and be listed on your website?
A: Yes, unless the business is inappropriate for family viewing.

Q: Does your website support any religious point of view?
A: No. We respect the right of all citizens to choose their religion, however, we reserve the right not to become a business site that favors one over the other.

Q: How long have you been working on this business?
A: Actually, I started with the idea right after I turned 15 and got my Learner’s permit. I was looking for a way to eventually buy a car and be able to play golf more often. Then, I recently got my license and started thinking harder…when it came to me to tie local businesses to supporting their local youth in ‘starting something’ positive—I knew I had it.

Q: Are you a paid representative of the “Start Something” program?
A: No. As an individual youth member I have taken this challenge on without any compensation or authority from the “Start Something” program, The Tiger Woods Foundation or any other entity. If they should ever asked me to be a spokesperson or offer any compensation I will immediately disclose the facts surrounding that issue.

Q: Are you a non-profit business?
A: No. We are a for-profit business and I will dedicate 5% of my earnings to a non-profit with the same goals as mine, i.e., The Tiger Woods Foundation’s work with the “Start Something” program.

Q: Why do you think this business is ideal for fundraising?
A: I've participated in fundraising for all of my school years (not to mention the fundraising efforts of my friends and cousins at their schools) and I always wondered why no one ever did anything that was year-round and more focused on young people (other than candy, raffle tickets, bazaars, calendars, T-shirts and other stuff people usually bought because they felt sorry for me). Well, I've heard there are a few new innovative programs out there, but I happen to believe my program is the "BEST OF ALL" once any organization finds out about us. It targets the local communities directly and particularly the businesses in the communities that make their living from all of us. In addition, my program can incorporate any organizations fundraising goals (i.e., band uniforms, library books, church choir trip, sports uniforms, etc.) year-round without ever changing its focus - which is to support and promote the enrollment of 8-17 year olds in the "Start Something" program as a community effort. I have personally benefited from being a member and I know ALL young people can.

Q: When I see a local business on your TBOU website does that mean this business has been supportive of your “Start Something” efforts in their community?
A: YES. That is the short answer, however, each business has the right to channel their support in whatever manner they see fit, i.e., become a group leader, hand out brochures, mention us in their ads or become vocal in their community.

Q: Do “you” sell any products on your websites?
A: NO. We only allow the businesses to advertise what they sell (a customer can either be linked to that business’s website or go to the business’s location). “TBOU” provides a PayPal location for the businesses to pay us for their space (it is for convenience, since I am in school and can’t be running from business to business for payments). At some later date we might sell bumper-stickers or T-Shirts or mugs, but I’d rather someone else handle that for us.

Q: How good a golfer are you?
A: Not as good as I’d like (I started on Sept. 27, 2001 playing 9 holes), but I am very proud of all of my accomplishments in golf up to this point. I am particularly proud of being the team captain for my (Middleton) high school team last season (we went 6-2). Aside from that and winning a $1500 college scholarship from Publix, I guess my most rewarding achievement to date on the golf course was my winning 8 straight 1st place trophies for the First Tee/YMCA Tampa Urban Junior Golf’s monthly Developmental Tournaments at Terrace Hill golf course (August 2002 through April 2003, November 2002 was cancelled due to weather).

Q: Are any golf courses involved in this “best of us” effort?
A: Yes, I am working on signing up several as of this writing. You can expect to see several in our local site areas soon.

Q: How do you intend to take this business of yours statewide and national, being that you are still a high school student?
A: I will seek out adult help, since it would be impractical to rely on just young golfers I know. I will make my cause and business known to the many organization and group leaders I’ve met over the past two years. You don’t have to be a golfer to be a TBOU Community Rep…you just have to be serious about the cause and want to ‘start something’ in your community.

Q: Will businesses have to participate regularly beyond being featured on your websites?
A: NO. Once a business takes the “TBOU Pledge” and is entered in a specific community website location of ours, all they will have to do is provide an honest attempt to make the “Start Something” program known to their customers (the program will provide free brochures to each business directly if they just request it, or we can request it for them).

Q: How does a young person get involved as a TBOU Rep?
A: Just email me through my website at: jr@thebestofus.biz

Q: For what areas are you still seeking adult reps?
A: Almost everywhere, i.e., Tampa, South Tampa, Valrico, Riverview, Zephyrhills, Lutz, Temple Terrace, Town and Country, New Tampa, Citrus Park, Land O’Lakes, Plant City, St. Petersburg, Gulfport, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs, Pinellas Park, Largo, Clearwater, etc. I already own the domain names for these locations and will be acquiring more throughout Florida and the USA each week. As well as the entire United States.

Q: Do you have a lot of adults involved in your business?
A: Yes. In three ways—First, as sponsors for the youth participants; Second, as the actual sales force; and Third, as advisors and consultants since many of these things are new to me and as a minor I cannot sign contracts.

Q: What is your long term goal?
A: To be responsible for my business getting One Million (1,000,000) new members to sign up to the "Start Something" Program; and to play a round of golf with Tiger Woods one day.

Q: Are you hiring other youths to represent other communities?
A: Yes, I am seeking youth reps for all of the other communities, however I will, technically, NOT be hiring them. The youth reps will be in the minority since adult independent contractors will have to handle the day to day business contacts. They will be compensated based on the business they sign up in their community “THEBESTOF…” website.
